Abohar, December 16
Even as senior police officers of Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana have been holding meetings in the past, though not regularly, the Punjab Police have failed to cooperate in busting an interstate gang responsible for the theft of luxury vehicles in the three states.
At Sriganganagar today, Rajasthan IGP Giriraj Meena said a complaint had been filed with the Punjab DGP against some police officials based at Abohar, Fazilka and Ferozepur. The kingpin of the gang, Vikram Bishnoi of Gumjal village in Abohar, had turned an approver and helped the Fazilka police recover 65 stolen vehicles in June this year. Now, the Sriganganagar police have nabbed him and recovered 30 vehicles, 18 of these are in Sriganganagar and 12 in Hanumangarh.
Investigation indicated that Tara Chand Swami, Mohinder Meena and Sukhbir Singh Soni of Sriganganagar, Ram Dass, alias “RD”, of Sukhchain village in Abohar, Sukha Gujjar of Beas and Shakti Singh Bishnoi of Nagaur had been assisting Vikram in stealing luxury vehicles. Sukha Gujjar served the District Transport Office in Amritsar as an agent and was instrumental in preparing fake documents by tempering with chassis and engine serial numbers. Vikram has surrendered before the Sriganganagar police as pressure was mounted on him. The police have recovered three pick-up jeeps, Mohindra jeep, Indigo CS car, Tata Indigo car, Indica car, Maruti Zen, tractor, seven motorcycles, body of Bolero van and an engine.
IGP Meena said buyers of the stolen and altered vehicles would be booked under Section 411 IPC.
