Rape case: Charges framed against Punjabi singer Jelly

In a case of rape of a model and actress by Punjabi singer Jarnail Singh Jelly and others, charges were framed against the accused in a local court here today.
According to sources, due to repeated failure of the local police in presenting a supplementary chargesheet, charges under only Section 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) of the IPC have been framed against the accused.
Jelly along with three others, Swaran Singh, Maninder Singh and Charanpreet Singh, was booked on October 22, 2014 on the complaint of the victim under Sections 376-D (gang rape), 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her for marriage), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act at the Phase 1 police station.
The police had also conducted a polygraph test of the accused. The report has already been submitted in the court. Jelly had surrendered on April 19, 2017.
Earlier, in her complaint to the then SSP on September 29, 2014, the victim had alleged the accused had blackmailed and raped her several times after video-recording the act.
The next hearing is on February 20.
