The district administration has already started developing the 3-acre plot near the site of Pincassia resort. Ropar Deputy Commissioner Sumeet Jarangal said besides a restaurant, a studio would also be set up shooting films or song sequences at the site. The visitors would also be able to witness migratory birds and enjoy boating at the nearby boating club in the Sutlej.

Pincassia resort situated on the banks of the Sutlej on the outskirts of the town was popular due to its prime location. It was demolished after the then SAD-BJP government handed it over to Alchemist Hospitality in 2009 to develop as a five-star resort on public private partnership (PPP) basis. Later, the company dragged its feet and the Tourism Department scrapped the contract and forfeited the security deposited of the bidder.

Jarangal said the district administration arranged funds for the project on its own and decided to set up the garden. While the land was already available free of cost, Rs 30 lakh earned by organising SARAS Mela would be spent on developing the garden and setting up restaurants and shooting centre. Two buildings already existing on the site, including a shed, would be converted into the restaurant and studio, he added.
