Ropar, November 26
Ropar-based advocate and RTI activist Dinesh Chadha has alleged that the management of toll plaza managing the Ropar-Doraha road was being favoured by the authorities. He said the company was issued provisional completion certificate and allowed to collect toll tax three years ago even as the work on this route was yet to be completed.
Chadha, citing information procured through the RTI Act, said Atlanta Ropar Tollways Pvt Limited, Mumbai, was running two toll plazas on 54-km-road passing through Chamkaur Sahib and Doraha and set up two toll plazas. He said despite several notices by PWD officials in this regard, the company didn’t bother to complete the road project.
PWD XEN Vishal Gupta said he had written to the higher authorities to suspend the contract of the company and a decision was yet to be taken.
However, toll company general manager Rajesh Kumar said the state government in the middle of the project changed the design of the ROB by increasing its length at Doraha due to which additional Rs 40 crore were required to complete the project. The government refused to compensate the company against the extra expenditure to be incurred and now they had no option but to stop the work, he said.
