The SAD today demanded that the Vidhan Sabha should not make an obituary reference to former DGP KPS Gill in the Budget session.
The names of Gill, former BJP MP Vinod Khanna and other personalities who died in recent months are scheduled to be read out on the opening day of the session tomorrow.
In a letter to the Vidhan Sabha Speaker, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said Gill’s name should be omitted in view of the human rights violations during the latter’s tenure as the Punjab DGP.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the SAD core committee, presided over by party patron Parkash Singh Badal.
Questioning the SAD’s stand, a senior AAP leader said the party had extended favours to Gill’s loyalists during its 10-year rule. “One of them was appointed DGP even though he was facing criminal charges,” he added.
