New Delhi: The Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) on Tuesday appealed to Akal Takht for "social boycott" of Puneet Chandhok, former adviser to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) for Sikh Affairs, on the alleged charge of smoking hookah. A delegation of the party led by senior vice-president of its youth wing Jasmit Singh Pitampura submitted a letter to Akal Takht seeking action against Chandhok. The letter was submitted in the presence of SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal. The delegation said smoking hookah was a crime for the Sikh community. The DSGMC had earlier said that a video was viral on social media showing Chandhok smoking hookah and wearing a cap, which was "against Sikh tenets". He was relieved from all duties and responsibilities assigned to him by the DSGMC. TNS
