Screening of film on Sikh Guru put off

AMRITSAR: The screening of animated film “Dastaan-e-Miri Piri” has been postponed as Akal Takht is yet to give its nod.

The screening of animated film “Dastaan-e-Miri Piri” has been postponed as Akal Takht is yet to give its nod.

The film based on the the life of sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind Sahib was scheduled to release on June 5, but came under the scanner following opposition to the animated version. Akal Takht has put a bar on its release and directed the SGPC to scrutinise it.

Spokesperson for Chhatampeer Production said the objections pointed out by the expert panel had been amended, but it could not be released without Akal Takht’s approval. The panel had submitted its report with the SGPC president, Gobind Singh Longowal. Akal Takht Jathedar’s personal assistant Jaspal Singh said the report of the panel would be observed by Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh.

Giani Harpreet Singh is expected to visit Amritsar tomorrow and may take a final call on it.

Eariler, the SGPC panel had pointed out several lapses in the film based and asked the producers to make amends before getting a green signal for its screening.

The panel included SGPC member and advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, Sikh intellectual Dr Inderjit Singh Gagoani, Manmohan Singh and Simarjit Singh.
