Patti SDM Navraj Singh Brar, who is conducting an inquiry, said misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs 1.80 crore had also been detected.

During her tenure as SDM, Anupreet had transferred Rs 1.80 crore to the bank accounts of 20 persons illegally.

Anupreet, who remained SDM in Tarn Taran, Patti and Bhikhiwind during the past 10 years, is now posted in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar.

The amount was released by the Centre as compensation to the persons whose land was acquired for the construction of the National Highway No. 54 passing through the district.

In the probe report, Brar said the officer by using her authority wrongly deposited the huge amount in the bank accounts of the other accused without verifying records of the Revenue Department.

Most of the persons belonged to villages other than those where the land was acquired, said the report, adding that Anupreet not only misused her official authority, but also caused a loss to the state exchequer.

After SSP Dhruv Dahiya approved the inquiry report, a case was registered against Anupreet and others.

Despite repeated attempts, Anupreet did not respond to phone calls.
