Police security to Punjabi singer Parmish Verma will continue even though he had paid “protection money”of Rs 10 lakh to gangster Dilpreet Dahan.
DGP Suresh Arora on Thursday said it was the duty of the state to protect any threatened person. “I have been telling everyone that it is just a matter of time before the police catches a gangster or any criminal. They should have faith in us. At the same time, every citizen has the right to take a decision related to his safety. The police have proved their point by eliminating major gangsters.”
The Mohali police had said on Wednesday that Parmish would lose his security cover for paying “protection money” to gangster Dilpreet after the latter attacked him in April.
The police said they were investigating if Parmish used “hawala” channels to pay the amount to Dilpreet. The police had given Parmish four police guards for his round-the-clock-security.
“I talked to SSP Chahal in the morning on the issue. The security of Parmish will continue, if he needs it,” the DGP said.
