Phagwara: Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kapurthala, on Friday rejected the bail application of Shiv Sena national president Shivi Batta in a case registered against him under Section 302 of the IPC in connection with April 13 clashes. SP (headquarters) Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said the bail applications of five Dalits, including Ambedkar Sena Mool Niwasi president Harbhajan Suman, Baljinder Kumar, Sanjiv Kumar, Davinder Deep and Pardeep Ambedkeri, all activists of Dalit organisations, had been accepted. Pvt colleges to get SC scholarship dues: CM

Chandigarh: Private unaided colleges in the state will get the pending SC post-matric scholarship amount. This was stated by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday. The Chief Minister ordered  officials to release Rs 400 crore to the colleges. The private colleges have been accusing the government of stalling funds under the garb of special audit. The Chief Minister said the unaided colleges would be reimbursed the scholarship amount as per the fee structure fixed by the government for them. TNS

Scrap auctioning of cattle fairs: AAP 

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the auction of cattle fairs (Pashu Melas) in the state to private contractors be scrapped, stating that these should instead be organised by the Department of Panchayats and Rural Development on the pattern of Haryana. Addressing a press conference, Kharar MLA and spokesperson for the State Party Legislative Wing, Kanwar Sandhu, along with other MLAs said the government had for many years resorted to open loot of dairy farmers through private contractors.
