The SGPC will launch the Kala Pani Punjabi Freedom Fighter Project to highlight the role of Sikh freedom fighters, who were lodged in Cellular Jail at Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the British rule.
The jail referred as “kala pani” during the British era has been converted into a museum. The light and sound show played there has little mention of the Sikh community’s participation in the freedom struggle.
The details of the project are yet to be finalised.
Kirpal Singh Badungar, SGPC president, said efforts would be made to collect the credentials of several Sikh activists of the Ghadar Party, Babar Akal Lehar and Komagata Maru incident, and those lodged in Cellular Jail.
