A 15-year-old baptised Sikh youth cut his hair at Daulatpura village in Moga district on Tuesday and spread the rumour that some unknown persons have allegedly cut his hair.

Pradeep Pal Singh, belonging to a Mazbi family, got baptised a couple of years ago, but could not maintain the maryada as laid down in Sikhism.

He thought that the braid-cutting paranoia was the perfect ruse for him to cut his hair.

Initially, the youth claimed that some unidentified persons had cut his hair. But later, when local Akali leader Buta Singh grilled him in the presence of his parents, he admitted to having cut his hair.

He said that he wanted to keep short hair like his friends. He said that his parents, who were also baptised, were forcing him to keep long hair.

Later, the youth apologised in the presence of the local Akali leaders, police officials, his parents and the villagers.
