For the 10 sports category MBBS and 12 BDS seats in the 21 medical and dental colleges in the state, the Sports Department has revised the merit list of all 32 eligible aspirants who were shortlisted by the department.
In the revised list, many candidates who were on top of the chart in the earlier submitted list have now been relegated to lower ranks, leaving them disappointed.
On July 8, the department had submitted a list of 32 eligible candidates to the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) for admission on five sports quota MBBS seats in three government medical colleges in the state. The medical university had received 50 applications for the sports quota seats at that time. Of these, the department had rejected the claim of 18 candidates, declaring them ineligible for the quota.
Now, after the introduction of micro-reservation in the private medical and dental colleges, there is an increase of five sports quota MBBS and 11 BDS seats. Besides this, the Punjab and Haryana HC has changed the rank and merit deciding formula for the sports category candidates.
On July 27, the HC had ordered that instead of relying upon the number of medals obtained by a sports candidate, deciding factor for the merit of sportsperson with same gradation should be their marks in the NEET-2019.
The Sports Department today submitted the revised merit list of the sports category candidates. Due to late receipt of this revised merit list, the BFUHS could not declare the result of 10 sports category MBBS seats in the first round of counselling on Thursday. “The counselling for the sports category shall now be conducted physically on September 3,” said BFUHS registrar Dr Arvind Sharma.
