Faridkot: Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda on Monday inaugurated the state’s first AMRIT Retail Pharmacy at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital here through video-conferencing. Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment (AMRIT) is run by the Union government-owned HLL Lifecare Ltd. It sells both drugs, particularly for cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and implants at discounted rates. TNS

Sirhind doc booked for gender test 

Fatehgarh Sahib: The police have registered a case under the PNDT Act against Dr Mahesh, owner of Mahesh Hospital, Sirhind, for allegedly running a sex determination racket in connivance with the three touts — Kanta, Santosh and Ram Krishan, all residents of Sirhind. The police have recovered Rs 17,000 from touts and doctor allegedly given by officials of the Haryana Health Department to a decoy customer. OC

Farmer shoots wife

Muktsar: A farmer allegedly shot his wife with his .12-bore rifle at Dhulkot village in Gidderbaha on Monday. Later, Sukhmander Singh ‘Manga’, fled from the spot. Gurpreet Kaur (30) got married to Sukhmander 10 years ago, but they were having some dispute, sources said. TNS

Cops to be rewarded 

Head constable Mohinder Singh and volunteer Harikesh, who were on duty at the ISBT-17, constable Shapinder and volunteer Gurjant Singh, who were on duty with DSP Yash Pal, acted swiftly and nabbed one of the accused. They will be rewarded, said officials.
