Students of 217 smart schools to don new uniform

The School Education Department on Thursday announced dress code for students of 217 government smart schools in the state.
In these English medium schools, equipped with digital monitors, high-speed internet facilities, projectors, tablets, state-of-the-art laboratories and infrastructure for sports activities, the students will wear maroon and cream coloured clothes.
The boys will have to wear maroon check shirt, cream trousers, tie, belt, batch, identity card, plain maroon patka, turban or cap, black shoes and maroon socks. The dress code for girls is cream coloured shirt with half jacket (maroon check), salwar (maroon check), batch, identity card, dupatta (plain maroon-optional), black shoes, maroon socks and maroon sweater.
To purchase this uniform, the department has announced to provide Rs 600 per student to all girls, SC and BPL category boys from Classes VI to VIII in these 217 schools. However, the funds will be released to school management committees after these are received from the Union Human Resources Ministry, says Prashant Kumar Goyal, Director General School Education (DGSE), Punjab.
All students of Classes IX to XII in smart schools will have to purchase the uniform from their own pocket. The students who have already bought the uniform have been given one-year relaxation from this dress code, while all others will have to buy the new uniform as per the dress code.
At present, all government schools have their own dress code. Uniform dress code for all smart schools has been decided by a panel of school heads.
One government senior secondary school in each educational block in the state has been elevated as a smart school in the state.
