Students stripped juniors on teacher’s order: Probe

Abohar, November 5

An inquiry into the stripping incident at Government Elementary (Middle) School for Girls, Kundal village, has reportedly found that four students of Class VIII, acting on their teacher’s directions, undressed a dozen pupils of Class VII in the mid-day meal room on Wednesday after a used sanitary pad was spotted in the lavatory.

The inquiry committee, comprising District Education Officer Kulwant Singh, Child Security Officer Ritu Bala, Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital Medical Officer Dr Shelly Arora and Government Senior Secondary Girls School, Abohar, principal Bindu Arora, met students, their parents and teachers. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Poonam Singh monitored the proceedings.

The report will be submitted to the state government through Deputy Commissioner Manpreet Singh, sources said.

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had ordered the transfer of two teachers, pending an inquiry, after a video clip of the girl students narrating their ordeal had gone viral.

Head teacher Kuldeep Kaur was shifted to Government Senior Secondary School, Balluana village, while science teacher Jyoti Chugh was transferred to Government Senior Secondary School, Khuikhera village.

Meanwhile, Gopi Chand Sandar, state president of the All India SC Yuvjan Samaj, said a code of conduct should be framed to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

He added that the Women and Child Welfare Department should provide waste buckets in every school and deploy sanitation staff for the disposal of sanitary pads.
