After the Punjab State Council for Agricultural Education Act 2018, came into the force last year, the council has served notices on the institutes and asked them to submit a status report with regards to admission, affiliation and curriculum.

As 82 institutes of 107 failed to submit the report, KS Pannu, member secretary of the council, issued a public notice warning students against taking admission to such courses.

The notice read, “Students may take admission in these institutions at their own risk and cost because non-affiliation/non-approval of these institutes on account of failure to comply with provisions of the Act shall render degrees/diplomas/certificates issued by the institutes as invalid.” Five private universities, including Lovely Professional University, Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Chandigarh University, DAV University and Sant Baba Bhag Singh University and 20 colleges figure in another list of 25 institutes that had submitted the report but do not fulfill the conditions as per the Act.

A separate notice was issued against stating that if they do not fulfill the criteria by December 31, they could face refusal for affiliation with the council. Till a few years ago, the course was offered only in Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, and Khalsa College, Amritsar.
