Tributes paid to Lala Lajpat Rai

Commissioner of Ferozepur division Sumer Singh Gurjar and Moga Deputy Commissioner Dilraj Singh Sandhawalia paid floral tributes to freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai, also known as Punjab Kesari, at Dhudike village in Moga district on the occasion of his 153rd birth anniversary on Sunday.
The freedom fighter was born on January 28, 1865, in the house of his maternal grandparents here.
The officials said the nation was indebted to him for his “exceptional” role in the freedom movement.
Local Congress MLAs Dr Harjot Kamal, Darshan Singh Brar and Kaka Sukhjit Singh Lohgarh also paid floral tributes on his statue. They said the approach roads leading to Dhudike village would be repaired soon.
An Astroturf hockey ground on the premises of the Lala Lajpat Rai Government College at Dhudike village, the work on which was pending for the past couple of years, would also be completed soon, the Congress legislators assured the local people.
Members of the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Committee, the family members of local freedom fighters, the village panchayat and many local politicians paid floral tributes to the freedom fighter.
Abohar: Braving dense fog and chill, people assembled in Lala Lajpat Rai Park here on Sunday to celebrate the birth anniversary of the freedom fighter known as Punjab Kesari. They garlanded the memorial and offered floral tributes.
Punjabi Sabhyachar Manch chairman and former SDM BL Sikka said the statue of the veteran freedom fighter was installed during the tenure of Rai Sahib Kundan Lal Ahuja who served as President of the local Municipal Committee for three decades. The then Chief Minister, Pratap Singh Kairon, had unveiled the same. — OC
