Two HC judges sworn in

Chandigarh, June 28

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today got two more judges with the elevation of Jalandhar District and Sessions Judge Raj Shekhar Attri and Registrar-General Gurvinder Singh Gill. District and Sessions Judge AK Tyagi was appointed Registrar-General, pursuant to Justice Gill’s elevation.

Justice Attri and Justice Gill were administered oath as Additional Judges of the high court this morning by Chief Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar.

At a ceremony attended by sitting and retired judges, relatives and advocates, the judge swore to “bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution as by law established”.

The judge also swore to “uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India” and “duly and faithfully and to the best of ability, knowledge and judgment, perform the duties of the office without fear or favour, affection and ill will”. The number of judges with their elevation has gone up to 48. The high court with the sanctioned strength of 85 is reeling under pendency of more than 2.5 lakh cases. — TNS
