American Sikhs offered prayers and took part in a candlelight vigil in memory of the 11 Jews who were gunned down on Saturday in the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Members of the World Sikh Parliament, Sikh Coordination Committee East Coast, Sikh Centre of New York Inc and other organisations expressed solidarity with the Jewish community.

The event was organised by Queens borough president Melinda R Katz at Boroughs Hall in New York on Monday. Six years ago, a similar hate crime had occurred at a gurdwara in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
