Former chief engineer Baldev Singh Sran was on Tuesday appointed Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for a two-year term. He will take charge from IAS officer A Venu Prasad, who headed the corporation for over a year.
Sran, who retired from the PSPCL in February this year after 34 years of service, has vast experience in all three fields — power generation, transmission and distribution. He worked for more than 19 years in generation, six in transmission and eight in distribution in different capacities in the corporation.
Sran also served as president of the Punjab State Electricity Board Engineers Association. Known for his professionalism, Sran is likely to bring major reforms in the power sector and plug loopholes in the corporation.
Sran said: “My focus is to ensure that the power utility is able to reduce its losses and supply quality power to all sections of society. We have a lot of work to do to achieve that target.” The PSEB Engineers Association has welcomed his appointment.
