Sangrur, June 17

Personnel from the Anti- Goonda Staff along with Handiaya police have arrested a criminal and accomplices for fracturing the legs of Vir Chakra awardee Brigadier Joginder Singh Jaiswal (retd) in Jalandhar last month.

Accused Harinder Singh alias Honey faces other cases in Barnala too.

SSP Baljot Singh Rathore said that their teams were tracking Honey since March 19 when he fled without paying money from a petrol pump on Mansa-Handiaya road.

After the attack on Jaiswal on May 30, they had got information about the involvement of Honey in the crime and since then special police teams had been regularly raiding the area to arrest him.

“On a tip off late last evening, our team arrested Honey from Handiaya chowk when he was waiting for his accomplices. He has confessed that he and his aideshad broken the legs of Jaiswal over a property dispute, he said.

The Brigadier was attacked with iron rods and sharp- edged weapons on May 30 in Punjab Avenue colony, Jalandhar, when he was going home.
