Why favour turncoats, fumes Congress ex-MP

After former Punjab Congress chief and former Jalandhar MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee lashed out at the party for not giving the ticket to him from Jalandhar, another senior party leader and former Hoshiarpur MP Santosh Chaudhary (76) today expressed resentment for being ignored despite being the only Dalit woman leader of the party.
“If former MP Preneet Kaur, who lost the 2014 Parliamentary elections, can be given the ticket this time, I should have been considered this time from Hoshairpur, as I was denied ticket in the 2014 General Election and 2017 Assembly elections,” she added. Visibly upset, the former Union Minister of State for Health minced no words in saying that the moneyed and powerful had an advantage in getting themselves nominated from the Hoshiarpur reserved seat, hinting at the nomination of sitting Chabbewal MLA Raj Kumar Chabbewal for the Hoshairpur LS seat.
“The traditional Congressmen have been ignored over turncoats. Chabbewal joined the Congress from BJP,” said Chaudhary, who rides on her family legacy over the constituency as her father-in-law Chaudhary Sunder Singh had represented it earlier. Her husband had also represented the Sham Chaurasi Assembly constituency which was earlier a part of the Phillaur constituency and was later added to Hoshiarpur.
