Wife’s parents arrested for duping youth of Rs 35 lakh

The Rawalpindi police have booked a woman, Gurpreet Kaur, and her parents, residents of Kultham village, for cheating her husband, Daljinder Singh, resident of Bhakhriana village. The police have arrested Manjit Singh and his wife Manjit Kaur, parents of the main accused Gurpreet Kaur, under Sections 420 and 120B of the IPC.

The SHO, Rawalpindi, Sikandar Singh, said the case was registered against Gurpreet Kaur and her parents on the charges of duping Daljinder Singh of Rs 35 lakh.

Gurpreet Kaur had allegedly hatched a conspiracy with her parents to reach New Zealand to join her lover there by marrying Daljinder Singh and grabbing Rs 35 lakh from him for the purpose. The marriage was solemnised on April 2, 2016, at Kultham village.

Daljinder in his complaint lodged with the Phagwara police said his wife insisted him to go to New Zealand for further studies and they both went to New Zealand on July 7, 2017. After a few months his wife quarrelled with him and lodged a police complaint against him in New Zealand on September 9. He was arrested by the police on September 10 on the charges of domestic violence and breach of police safety order and remained in lock-up for a week. He was deported from New Zealand on October 8.

The SHO said the police would try to bring Gurpreet Kaur to India to arrest her.

NZ connection 

  • Gurpreet Kaur had allegedly conspired with her parents to go to New Zealand to join her lover there by marrying Daljinder.
  • After a few months of marriage, Gurpreet quarrelled with Daljinder and lodged a police complaint against him.
  • Following that, he was arrested and deported from New Zealand.
