Former Mayor of Gravesham, England, and chairman of the Labour Party there Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi said Punjabi NRIs were badly affected since the separation of Britain from the European Union.

Dhesi said, “The value of the pound had fallen by 10 to 15 per cent since the day of this announcement. The financial condition of England had badly shaken since the day. It is likely to take another two to three years for the complete exit of the England from the European Union as new policies for trade have to be formulated.” He said the prices of certain commodities would rise as new taxes would be imposed and there would be some legal wrangles too.

He added that the Punjabi diaspora settled there was quite inquisitive about the political situation in the home state and was following every development very keenly. He interacted with the media along with his uncle and SGPC member Paramjit Singh Raipur.
