Reacting on the resignation of Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu from the state Cabinet, Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) leader Simarjit Singh Bains on Monday said the Congress had rejected Sidhu’s honesty.

Bains said “Navjot Singh Sidhu should join us and we will project him as CM candidate in 2022”.

Bains said this here as he kicked off his ‘Sadda Pani Sadda Haq’ campaign from Kapurthala.

Bains addressed the media after starting the campaign in Kapurthala as per which Bains is visiting various headquarters and sub-divisions across the state to highlight the water crisis and demanding that Punjab charge Rajasthan and Haryana for waters shared with the states as per Riparian laws.

Reacting on the resignation of Sidhu from the Cabinet – Bains said his resignation has proved that Rahul Gandhi had lost grip over the party and that the state Congress leadership had rejected Sidhu’s honest politics.

Extending invitation to Sidhu yet again to join the alternative (PDA and its allies), Bains said Sidhu should resign from the Congress party and join the alliance which shall project him as chief minister candidate.

Speaking to the press, Bains said, “It is clear the time has come for Sidhu to quit Congress and merely Cabinet resignation isn’t enough. The Congress has rejected his honesty. It’s also clear Rahul Gandhi has lost grip over party.

“He had to share his resignation (tendered since June 10 to Rahul) on social media — to make some noise. The state Congress didn’t pay any heed. Nor did anyone try to prevent him from resigning. I request him to quit the party and join us and we shall project him as CM candidate.”

Reiterating that Sidhu was bit of a “coward” and was still treading cautiously, Bains said, “Zalalat oh banda sahe jihne kursi ton dhandha karna hai. (only such person should be scared who has to make corrupt use of his power).”

Bains added, “Two Congress ministers have resigned since the party came to power. One Rana Gurjit Singh the other Sidhu. Rana quit amidst corruption allegations and Sidhu because he was exposing corruption. Sidhu’s protest and policies on various issues have been thrown into the bin by the state Congress. It is clear the Congress has no place for truth tellers. He wasn’t heard on any of the issues.”
