The Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has asked the district administration to rejuvenate at least one water body and follow allied schemes to implement the nationwide Jal Shakti Abhiyan in the district.

A team of the Union Ministry, led by its Joint Secretary Ramveer, reviewed the ongoing work on the Jal Shakti Abhiyan in the district.

The team visited Behloli, Korva Khurd, Rajpura, Patrehri and Samalehri village in Shehzadpur block and educated villagers on water conservation.

The officials said the ministry had issued directions to all states to implement the Jal Shakti Abhiyan in right earnest and ensure that every city rejuvenates at least one water body to conserve water.

The team also asked the district administration to frame a water conservation programme under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.

According to the Ministry officials, acting upon the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on water conservation and Jal Shakti Ministry’s campaign-based programme, the Centre has asked all states to undertake rejuvenation of a water body in each city under their jurisdiction.

“The thrust areas specified under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan include rainwater harvesting, reuse of treated waste water, rejuvenation of water bodies and plantation. Every state has been asked to first constitute a rainwater harvesting cell, which would monitor groundwater extraction, water harvesting potential of the city and oversee projects on rainwater harvesting,” the Ministry officials said.
