Relief for HealthyWay fraud accused

A local court today acquitted Amit Kakkar, accused in the HealthyWay immigration frauds dating back to 2011 in four chargesheets filed against him in the court. While there are a total of three FIRs and 17 chargesheets filed against the accused, Amit Kakkar got some relief today with the court acquitting him in four challans.

The case will again be heard tomorrow in the court of Judicial Magistrate Sukhda Pritam when the remaining two chargesheets in the particular FIR will come up for hearing. The remaining over 10 chargesheets filed in other cases against Kakkar are still pending.

The UT police, in 2011, had raided HealthyWay Immigration Consultancy Office in Sector 42 following complaints of large-scale frauds and registered three separate cases against them.

The owner of the travel agency, Amit Kakkar, along with others was booked for providing fake documents for obtaining visa in return of huge sums of money.

The police had registered a case under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of the IPC at the Sector 36 police station.

The complainants had alleged that he applied for Visa through the HealthyWay Immigration Centre in Sector 42-C, Chandigarh, for migration abroad. But the immigration company neither sent them abroad nor returned the money.

The owners of HealthyWay Immigration have been making tall claims of paving the way for a number of students to fulfill their wish to study in countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Spain.

Defence Counsel Advocate Varinder Arora said all the chargesheets registered against the company were found to be without substance and a majority of cases have also been compromised upon as the complainants have been refunded the money and they had not pursued the case in court.
