Guwahati, May 5
The Assam Government has announced Rs20 lakh ex gratia and payment of regular monthly salary to the family of state police officer, Bhaskar Kaliata, who was killed by ULFA(I) militants during a fierce gun battle under the Bordumsa police station area in Tinsukia district of Assam on Friday night. Two militants were also killed in the incident.
Slain cop was the officer-in-charge of the Bordumsa police station and was leading the team of police and paramilitary force personnel during the operation carried out against ULFA(I) militants. He is survived by his wife and two minor children.
Announcing the ex gratia, Assam Chief Minister and Home Minister Sarbananada Sonowal said the immediate family of the slain police officer would be able to draw full salary till his retirement age.
Sonowal condemned the killing of Kalita whose mortal remains were consigned to flames at his native place Azara near here with full state honours.
The CM directed the Director General of Police, Kuladhar Saikia, to travel to the site of the incident and take steps for arresting the culprits at the earliest. — TNS
