LUDHIANA: The police have booked two persons for allegedly snatching Rs 28,000 from a truck driver at Tharike village. Gurbaksh Singh of New Janta Nagar told the police that the suspects, who were travelling in a car, signalled me to stop. They broke the windowpane of the truck with a sharp weapon and snatched Rs 28,000 from him. The suspects have been identified as Gagandeep Singh and Harpreet Singh. A case under Section 379 B, 427 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against them at the Sadar police station. The police said the investigation into the case was under way. TNS

55 water samples fail purity test

Ludhiana: Keeping in view the summer season when the risk of water-borne diseases is the highest, the Health Department is collecting water samples from areas across the city. Of 107 samples collected from the city areas, 100 have tested negative. Similarly, of 147 samples collected from the high-risk areas, 48 have failed the purity test. The report has been sent to the Municipal Corporation for follow-up. TNS
