Rs 5 lakh for Kerala flood victims
Amritsar: Students, staff and management of Spring Blossoms and Spring Dale Senior School have come up with a contribution amounting to Rs 5 lakh for the CM’s Distress Relief Fund. Sahiljit Singh Sandhu, chairman, Spring Dale Educational Society, released the amount, which includes contribution of Rs 1 lakh by the management. Meanwhile, the family of Maulik Jain and Riddhi Jain, two former students of Spring Dale Senior School, who passed away in a car accident in December last, has contributed Rs 21,000 towards the cause. LIC marks foundation day
Amritsar: The Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India celebrated its 62 years of existence here on Saturday. Senior Divisional Manager Harvinder Singh said the total assets of the LIC had reached over Rs 28.5 lakh crore as on March 31. He recalled that the life insurance was opened to the private sector in 2000 but LIC continued to be the dominant life insurer. He informed that the LIC captured 75.67 per cent market share as on March 31 and 69.40 per cent on first year premium income among 24 life insurance companies. TNS
Khalsa College shines at fest
Amritsar: Khalsa College has won ‘Litmania’, an inter-college English festival, held at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. The college participated in all seven events and won six out of those, lifting the trophy. Principal Dr Mehal Singh said the events included fancy dress, poetry recitation, double dealer, literary portrait
making, and quiz and drama. The college enactment of ‘Toba Tek Singh’, a short story written by Saddat Hassan Manto, was appreciated. The principal congratulated the teachers and students. He said that the college took care of the holistic development of students. Prof Sukhmeen Bedi appreciated the efforts of the students. He said the students had a lot of energy that needed to be channelised in a positive way. TNS
