In recognition of socio-theatre activist Pran Sabharwal's contribution towards spreading Punjabiat and spirit of universal brotherhood through Punjabi language, theatre, media and films, Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh extended Sabharwal's Fellowship term by one year more.

GS Kakkar, president of the National Theatre Arts Society (NTAS), members and artistes assembled at Bhasha Bhawan here and congratulated duo Pran Sabharwal-Sunita Sabharwal for the honour bestowed on them. They lauded Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh for the noble gesture, valuing the contribution and encouraging Sabharwal, who is the founder faculty member of the Department of Speech, Drama and Music (established in 1967), now the Department of Theatre and Television.
