Sangrur district witnesses record 403 dengue cases

SANGRUR: The number of dengue cases in Sangrur district has crossed 400. As per official information, out of 1,092 suspected dengue cases, as many as 403 have tested positive to date in the district.

The number of dengue cases in Sangrur district has crossed 400.

As per official information, out of 1,092 suspected dengue cases, as many as 403 have tested positive to date in the district.

Out of these, 65 per cent cases (269 cases) are from urban areas while the remaining are from rural areas.

One patient has died due to the disease so far in the district. As per the death certificate issued by a private hospital in Patiala, Paramjit Kaur, wife of Amrik Singh of Sangrur, died on October 21 due to dengue hemorrhagic fever.

In 2012, 21 dengue positive cases were reported in the district; in 2013, 96; and in 2014, there were only four cases.

This year, from July 1 to September 8, only six such cases were reported. The rest came up after September 9.

Dr Gazali, nodal officer for dengue disease for Sangrur district, confirmed that 403 dengues cases had come to fore from various health blocks of the district this season.

The block-wise break up of dengue positive cases is: Sangrur (74 cases), Malerkotla (15 cases), Dhuri (139 cases), Sunam (41 cases), Fatehgarh Panjgrian and Ahmedgarh (14 cases); Amargarh (9 cases), Sherpur (29 cases), Bhawanigarh (35 cases), Longowal (23 cases), Kohrian (18 cases) and Moonak (6 cases).
