Sangrur, February 22
The PSPCL authorities today disconnected power supply to the District Transport Office (DTO) for not paying dues amounting to Rs 2.05 lakh. Officials say more offices will face action in coming days. During the last 24 hours, supply to 10 tubewells has been snapped, causing a severe shortage of water in the city.
The Sangrur Local Bodies Department tops the list of defaulters with Rs 3.53 crore outstanding bills, followed by Public Health Rs 1.7 crore, Punjab Police Rs 1.11 crore, DC Office Rs 42 lakh and Panchayat Raj Rs 28 lakh.
“Today, we have disconnected supply to the DTO and more offices will lose power connections. We have strict orders from our authorities. We have also disconnected power to 10 water works in the city,” said Tarsem Chand Jindal, Executive Engineer, PSPCL, Sangrur.
There are a total of 22 tubewells in the city, of which two are out of order and 10 have gone powerless. This has severely affected the water supply in the city.
Meanwhile, Sangrur DTO Himanshu Gupta said they had asked the power department to send the exact bill so that they could deposit the amount at the earliest.
“The power department has not paid octroi to the Nagar Council and wanted to adjust it against pending bills. I have directed both to resolve the matter to restore power supply to the tubewells,” said Punamdeep Kaur, ADC. “I am not aware of the exact outstanding amount. We will resolve the matter at the earliest,” said Abhinav Trikha, Deputy Commissioner.
