SASE to host global event on avalanches

Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), a laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is organising an international symposium on Snow Avalanches and Mitigation Strategies (SAMS-2019) at Manali as part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Key issues related to avalanche hazard mitigation in the changing climate scenario will figure in the symposium. Delegates from Canada, the USA, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, India and other countries will be discussing about the seasonal snowpack, avalanche dynamics, sensors and instrumentations, snowcover monitoring using remote sensing, avalanche forecasting, avalanche safety and rescue and winter weather hazards.

Integrated mountain development in the changing climate of Himalayas, Alps and other snowbound regions of the globe will also be deliberated upon and a report will be prepared for policy makers and administrators on strategies to be adopted in mitigation of snow avalanche hazards.
