Schoolteachers get expert tips

A week-long workshop for teachers was conducted at Manav Rachna International School by Sherry Sparks, regional vice-president for India, Mosaica Education, Atlanta, Georgia, US, who has an experience of over 40 years in the field of education. She has been a presenter at many international education conferences as also director of curriculum, instruction, assessment and staff development.

On the first day ofthe workshop, Sparks observed school functioning. She visited classrooms and interacted with students.

The second day programmed included a parent educator conference (PEC) at the school. She interacted with the parents to know their experiences with the school. She also interacted with teachers of the school as well as the children, so as to understand how far the school has succeeded in the terms of achieving its objectives.

The teachers shared their experiences in the school. They discussed the need for their further training and the areas where they might need more help. The teachers were asked to focus on academics. Sparks also discussed some effective library practices. She shared with the counsellors how to contribute towards the psychological and emotional health of students, teachers as well as parents. They discussed how to create values for all at school.

On the concluding day, everyone worked on creating long-term plans with emphasis on academics, followed by effective lesson-planning strategies.
