Sector 48 gets open-air theatre

Chandigarh, January 17  

City Mayor Davesh Moudgil inaugurated an open air theatre in the green belt pocket of Sector 48-C today. He also laid foundation stones for two other projects in the city today.

While addressing the gathering at Sector 48, the Mayor said it was a long-pending dream of local artistes and residents to have an open-air theatre in the southern sectors. 

“With the provision of this open-air theatre not only local artistes will showcase their talent, neighbouring children will also learn from them,” he added.

 “The area of the green belt is 5.05 acres while that of an open-air theatre is 1,558 sq metre with a seating capacity of 500 persons. Other facilities have also been provided here, including separate green room for men and women with attached toilets,” he said.

Moudgil also laid foundation stone of the construction work at temporary tin sheds in Labour Chowk, Sector 44, and  for the renovation of four floors of the building of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, in Sector 17, in the presence of Municipal Commissioner KK Yadav, Chief Engineer Manoj Bansal, SE (B&R) Sanjay Arora, councillor Heera Negi and other officials of the Chandigarh  Municipal Corporation.

During the ceremony, the Mayor said the MCC office had been extended upto six storey building recently. All new floors of the MCC office from third to sixth were fully air-conditioned and had modern infrastructural facilities, he added. 

 “The remaining part of the Municipal Corporation building from basement to the second floor will be renovated with modern infrastructure and latest facilities. The renovation work will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs 1931.73 lakh within time limit of 18 months,” the Mayor said.
