The real women (like we see around) have infamously evaded the Indian small screen. For the past decade, the television world has been invaded by women who are either epitome of perfection, morality and sacrifice (read perfect behen, bahu aur bhabi) or are scheming vamps. Where are the real girls? “You’ll find one in this show,” assures Sonali Nikam, playing the central character Jassi in the upcoming Aadhe Adhoore.
Zindagi’s, second home-grown fiction series Aadhe Adhoore, has a strong narrative, an unconventional storyline and realism with a story that takes infidelity out of the shadows. “She is a mature girl who takes sensible decisions and is otherwise a perfect sister, daughter, wife but at the same time she is in touch with her deeper self, knows what she wants and is not apologetic about it,” she shares of the character in particular and the storyline in general. With the spotlight firmly on the modern Indian real woman, it’s time to once again explore relationships, betrayal, love and emotions.
Journey so far
Set in Kapurthala, the show centers on Jassi’s life, who tries to strike a perfect balance between the emotions she feels and the circumstance she finds herself trapped in.
“My journey into television world started around three years ago with ad films. I joined as an assistant producer in a production house, so I know what goes behind the camera as much as what goes in front of it,” she shares.
“After that I did a diploma in IT and my mother even taught me typical girlie things like embroidery and drawing,” laughs the self-confessed, “typical Maharahstrian girl.” Watch her play a not so typical television woman now.
