The missing boys were identified as Deepak Singh Rautela, son of Kalyan Singh Rautela, and Gaurav Singh, son of Harish Mehta.

The villagers protested many times in Pithoragarh as the city police had not taken any effective steps to trace the missing teenage boys ever since they were missing from the village.

The joint police team had surveillance on their mobile phone sets to trace them, and their locations were found in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. A team nabbed them from Lucknow and they were brought back to Pithoragarh.

It was revealed during investigations that they had gone to Lucknow to earn some money. The police team handed over both the missing boys to their parents.
