Ace shuttler PV Sindhu is set to be appointed as Deputy Collector by the Andhra Pradesh government. The state government today made necessary amendments to the Public Services Commission Act and got them approved at a special session of the assembly in Amaravati.

Sindhu is likely to get the appointment letter in a couple of weeks after Governor ESL Narasimhan gives his nod to the amendments. Besides the job offer, the state government has given her Rs 3 crore as cash prize and a 1,000 square yard residential plot in Amaravati after her win in Rio last year.

At present, Sindhu is employed as a Deputy Manager in Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. The 22-year-old shuttler trains at the Pullela Gopichand academy in Hyderabad.

“Sindhu has shown extraordinary grit at the Olympics. The state government on its part is trying to honour her in our own way by offering her Deputy Collector’s post. The earlier governments have neglected sports in the state but we will do our best to retain talent,” Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said while passing the amendments to the State Public Services Commission Act.

The government also offered a 10 acre plot in Amaravati to Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand to set up a badminton academy.

According to Sindhu’s mother Vijaya, the shuttler will take up the job with the Andhra Pradesh government. Sindhu preferred Andhra Pradesh to Telangana even as the Telangana government  made a similar job offer to her.

Earlier, this month, Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao handed over a 1,000 square yard plot in Shaikpet area to Sindhu. Rao had also presented her a cash reward of Rs 5 crore immediately after she returned from Rio.
