Fatehabad, April 26
A 200-megawatt (MW) solar power project will soon be set up on a 48-km land strip running between two parallel canals in Fatehabad.
Fatehabad Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal made this announcement and said solar energy would be generated by setting up solar power plants on this strip of land between the Fatehabad branch and Sidhmukh canal of the Bhakra canal system from Tohana head to Kajalheri head in Fatehabad district.
A committee constituted by Haryana Renewable Energy Department has already conducted a site survey. Jogpal said with a view to ensure maximum utilization of solar energy and promote it, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Fatehabad, had had sent a proposal last year to Haryana Renewable Energy Department regarding availability of shadow-less land and possibilities of solar power generation.
The Department found that there were ample opportunities of solar energy generation in this area.
The 28-feet wide spare land between the 75-feet wide Fatehabad branch and 65-feet wide Sidhmukh canal is open and adequate sunlight is available in this area for solar energy generation.
On the proposal of DRDA, the Renewable Energy Department constituted a committee comprising of HPGCL members, Irrigation Department, Renewable Energy Department and the District Project Officer.
The committee visited the site on April 9 to assess the possibilities for setting up a solar power plant.
