Wooden flooring in bed rooms is a popular choice among people. Once the floor base has been perfectly levelled, the provision of wooden flooring becomes very easy and quick. Along with the flooring, wooden skirting is provided on the walls along the perimeter of the room. This is similar to marble, granite or tile skirting provided on the walls when these materials are used on the floors. It has often been noted that this wooden floor skirting fixed on the walls comes off and pressing it back into position doesn’t help. (See photograph). No carpenter or wooden flooring expert spares time to fix such pieces of skirting.
Solution: Whenever the wooden flooring is being laid in the rooms, pay special attention to the fixing of wooden skirting to the walls. The skirting shouldn’t be fixed in position just by snapping together the tongue-and-groove joints in the skirting pieces as is done in the floor. In case of skirting, special adhesive available to fix wooden skirting to the walls should be used to fix the skirting to the walls. In addition, thin headless nails should be driven in the walls at intervals of one foot or so and then wooden skirting pieces should be hammered into position. These nails can be driven after placing the skirting pieces in position as these are hardly visible.
