Pincky Balhara, 20, is a judo player from village Neb Sarai in Delhi. On Tuesday she clinched the silver medal in kurash, losing to Uzbekistan’s Sulaymanova Gulnor in the title match. Gulnor, the world champion in the 52kg category last year, is one of the best kurash players and easily won 10-0 in the final. Pincky had reached the final after wins of 5-0, 3-0 and 3-0 in the previous rounds. Pincky has won medals in judo in international events — she won gold at this year’s junior Asian Championships. She had won a bronze at last year’s Asian Championships. She started learning judo from her maternal uncle Samundar Tokas in Munirka, Delhi. Pincky missed out on getting into India’s judo squad for Jakarta and entered the Asian Games as part of the kurash team.
