Anshu Jamsenpa, a mother of two teenagers, scaled Mount Everest for the fourth time today. The mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh reached the peak at 9am.
Earlier, Anshu had scaled Mount Everest twice in May 2011, and then in 2013. Anshu’s double-ascent expedition this year was flagged off by Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on April 2 at Guwahati.
“Anshu had started the summit expedition after 38 days of acclimatisation at the Everest Base Camps, from April 4 to May 12,” said Kirati Dewan, the mountaineer’s public relations manager. “On May 13, she started the climb for the final summit and reached the top at 9am today. On reaching the top, she unfurled the Indian flag and took some pictures.”
“The good news is, she is absolutely fine and shall attempt double expedition. Officials at the Everest Base Camp and Kathmandu spoke to Anshu over satellite phone after she had unfurled the Tri-colour,” said Dewan. Anshu has conveyed her gratitude to her family, friends and supporters back home.
