Kerala’s Abdulla Aboobacker (16.30m) and Sanal Scaria (15.79m) finished second and third, respectively. Kerala’s Anu R (400m) was named the best female athlete with 1105 points, while Punjab’s Davinder Singh Kang (javelin throw) was named the best male athlete with 1127 points. In overall team rankings, Kerala finished on the top with 159 points at the end of the four-day event. Tamil Nadu (110) finished second and Haryana (101) third.

Spain’s football federation chief held in fraud probe
Police raided the headquarters of Spain’s football federation today and arrested its president Angel Maria Villar as part of an anti-corruption probe, a judicial source said. Villar, 67, a senior vice president of FIFA, was being held on suspicion of abusing his position to embezzle funds from the federation, among other charges, the source said. Villar’s son Gorka and another senior federation official were among those also detained in the probe which notably focuses on allegations of skimming profits from international matches, the source told AFP.

India lose 44-88 to Iran in William Jones Cup
The Indian men’s basketball team suffered a 44-88 loss against Iran on Day 4 of the William Jones Cup here today. For Iran, Navid Khajehzadeh (21 pts), Navid Rezaeifar (19 pts) and Sajjad Pazrofteh (16 pts) were the top-scorers, while Prasanna Venkatesh Sivakumar (12 pts) and Amjyot Singh Gill (8 pts) top-scored for the hosts. The Indian men will hope for a turnaround when they take the court against Lithuania tomorrow.

England through to Women’s World Cup final
England booked a place in the Women's World Cup final with a dramatic two-wicket win over South Africa. Anya Shrubsole hit the winning runs off the first ball she faced, with the hosts needing two runs from the final three balls of the innings. South Africa scored 218/6 off their 50 overs, with Mignon du Preez top scoring with an unbeaten 76 off 95 balls. England were in sight of victory but lost two wickets for four runs in nine balls before Shrubsole's first-ball boundary sealed a place in Sunday's final.
