Perth, December 13

Key spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and batsman Rohit Sharma were today ruled out of the second Test due to injuries. Rohit jarred his lower back while fielding during India’s win in Adelaide and is undergoing treatment, while Ashwin, who took 6/149 in the first Test, is unavailable due to a left-sided abdominal strain. Prithvi Shaw, who missed the first Test after injuring his ankle while fielding during a tour match, is also recovering.

“The team management is closely monitoring these players and a call on their availability for the third test will be taken at an appropriate time,” a BCCI statement said. Hanuma Vihari has been named in place of Rohit and left-arm spin bowler Ravindra Jadeja replacing Ashwin. — Agencies
