Manjit wants TOP Scheme inclusion after Asiad gold
Asian Games gold medallist Manjit Singh, who doesn’t have a regular job, requested the Sports Ministry to include him in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme to prepare for the upcoming big events like the 2020 Tokyo Games. Manjit, who won gold in the men’s 800m race, was left without a job in March 2016 after ONGC refused to extend his contract. “ONGC said I was not producing results,” Manjit said. “But now I have won a gold in Asian Games. I hope the Sports Ministry will take notice of my achievement and the hardships I am facing. I don’t have any sponsor. I am hoping that the Ministry will include me in the TOPS.”

RP Singh retires
Former India pacer RP Singh announced his retirement from the game. The 32-year-old Singh, a left arm speedster, took to Twitter to announce his decision. His international career spanned six years and the pacer played 82 matches across all three formats and picked up over 100 wickets. He was one of the heroes of India’s 2007 World T20 triumph.

Arunachal changes list to accommodate Delhi batsman
A little-known Delhi player’s inclusion in Ranji debutant Arunachal Pradesh’s list of guest players has come under the scanner with the team struggling to explain why he was picked over more accomplished domestic cricketers. The Arunachal Cricket Association has included Kshitiz Sharma in its list replacing one of the original three players for their debut domestic season. In fact, Sharma was also picked by Chennai Super Kings at the base price of Rs 20 lakh despite failing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His record stands at six runs from two List A games and 111 runs from 11 T20 games.

Russia’s anti-doping head gloomy on reinstatement
The head of Russia’s anti-doping body on Tuesday was downcast about the prospects of the organisation being reinstated into the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The governing body of world athletics has said it will uphold Russia’s ban from track and field events over mass doping until such a reinstatement takes place. Woakes, Pope in squad for fifth Test against India
England named all-rounder Chris Woakes and batsman Ollie Pope in their squad for the final Test against India. Pope was dropped from the side for the fourth Test in favour of spin bowler Moeen Ali, who produced a match-winning performance to lead England to victory and an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series. Pope will play for Surrey in the first two days of their County Championship match at Essex before joining the England squad at The Oval for the Test match which starts on Friday. Woakes missed the last Test in Southampton due to injury.

Mike Tyson to visit Mumbai on September 29
Former American heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson is expected to make his first ever visit to India. Tyson is slated to attend the first fight night of the Kumite 1 League to be held in Mumbai on September 29. The organisers said this will be the first time that the former heavyweight champion will be visiting the country as the mixed team martial arts league’s mentor.
