Srikanth, Sindhu win, Saina out of French Open
PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth stormed into the quarterfinals but Saina Nehwal’s run in the French Open ended with a straight game loss at the $325,000 Super Series event. The doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stunned world No. 6 Danish combo of Mads Conrad-Petersen and Mads Pieler Kolding to reach their second quarterfinal of the season. Sindhu dumped Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi 21-14 21-13. Srikanth saw off Hong Kong’s Wong Wing Ki Vincent 21-19 21-17 in a 37-minute match. Cricket ground in US named after Gavaskar
Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar inaugurated a cricket field in Louisville in the state of Kentucky in the USA, thus making it the first international sporting facility named after an Indian sportsperson. The Sunil Gavaskar Field, inaugurated on October 15, will serve as the home ground for the Louisville Cricket Club, which is part of the 42-team MidWest Cricket League. The club, with support from Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, built a cricket pitch at the Hays Kennedy Park.

Patna Pirates to meet Gujarat Fortunegiants in PKL final
Patna Pirates sealed their place in the final of the Pro Kabaddi League defeating Bengal Warriors 47-44 in the Qualifier 2 here today. For Pirates, Pardeep Narwal was the star performer with 23 raid points. For Bengal Warriors, Maninder Singh scored 17 points but didn't get enough support from the defenders as they scored just six tackle points. Patna Pirates will now play Gujarat Fortunegiants in the final on October 28. — Agencies

Fourth seed Juan Martin del Potro started his bid for a third Swiss Indoors title by outlasting Portugal’s Joao Sousa 6-1 4-6 6-1. The Argentinian lifted the Basel trophy in 2012 and 2013 — beating eight-time winner Roger Federer in both of those finals. AFP
