New Delhi, September 15
Indian cyclist Deborah Herold, a Tsunami survivor who is currently ranked 4th in the world, is seeking crowdfunding to purchase a customised cycle to participate in the upcoming Track World Cup in Glasgow.
Deborah needs to purchase a cycle worth Rs 7 lakh to be at par with her competitors from different parts of the world. With right training, exposure and equipment, she believes she can be a better cyclist than she’s right now and can achieve much more.
Speaking on her preparations for the championship in November, Deborah said, “I am looking forward to exhibiting my best form and skills in the Glasgow championship. I’m training rigorously and hope to win medals for my country.”
Socorre.com has tied up with Milaap.org, India’s largest crowdfunding platform, to raise funds for the young cyclist to help her prepare for the international competition.
At the ongoing Track Asia Cup in Delhi, Deborah took home two gold medals after beating participants from Malaysia, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan in two different events. During the 2004 Tsunami, she survived the calamity by spending over a week on a tree, waiting for the waters to recede. PTI
