Doping: Cuban, Qatari fail retroactive Beijing tests
Cuban discus thrower Yarelys Barrios has been stripped of her Olympics silver medal from the 2008 Beijing Games after failing a retroactive drug test, the International Olympic Committee said today. Barrios, 33, tested positive for banned substances in tests originally taken at Beijing. She tested positive for the diuretic and masking agent acetazolamide, and has been ordered to return her medal. She also won bronze in the London Games. Qatari track and field athlete Samuel Adelebari Francis, 29, who finished 16th in the 100m event, also failed the test.

F1: Massa to retire at end of season
Brazilian Formula One driver Felipe Massa announced today he will retire at the end of the 2016 season. The 35-year-old, who began his Grand Prix career in 2002, confirmed his long-expected departure during a news conference ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza. “I’m more nervous now than for all my race starts,” said Massa. “After 27 years of my racing career, since I started karting and with 15 years in F1, this will be my last season in F1. Life gives us so many choices. I think for me it has got to the time where I have to go and do something different.” Massa started his career with Sauber before moving to Ferrari in 2006 and then Williams.

Walsh delighted with Bangladesh job
Newly-appointed bowling coach Courtney Walsh thinks the Bangladesh cricket team has a “talented bunch of players” and is looking forward to begin working with them. The West Indies fast bowling great agreed to a three-year contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board which begins this week. The 53-year-old Walsh, the most successful bowler from the Caribbean Islands with 519 Test wickets, recently completed his role as a West Indies selector. “Having watched Bangladesh cricket from afar over the years, they are a seriously talented bunch of players,” said Walsh.

SA cricket franchises earn profits for first time in 25yrs
Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) franchises have experienced profits for the first time since the country was reinstated into international cricket in 1991. CSA president Chris Nenzani attributed this achievement to heightened corporate governance and diligent operational processes at its affiliates. “Congratulations to all concerned with these outstanding results,” Nenzani said.
